About The Travelling City Girl
Get to know me!

Hello, I’m Kelena

A Canadian part-time travel blogger with dreams of becoming a full-time travel blogger and exploring more than my backyard.

I’d forget travel details and insights explaining them to family and friends, so I decided to create a travel blog. Now I can share everything with you.

I’m here to help you discover the best my home province of British Columbia offers.

My Story

The Travelling City Girl

Living in Vancouver

Growing up in Vancouver, I’ve always wanted to travel around the world, exploring, experiencing new things, and learning. My goal/dream is to travel and work for myself.

However, even though my blog is dedicated to exploring British Columbia, I’ve also travelled abroad to Indonesia (Bali) and within North America, such as to Mexico and the United States, including Hawaii, New York, California and Oregon.

The Canada-US border is 45 minutes from Vancouver, so I’ve visited Washington many times, including Seattle and Taco Bell—mostly Taco Bell because they have the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze (slush to me and my fellow Canadians), which is only available in the United States.

How I Got Started Blogging

I always love to share information about places, experiences, and funny or serious moments while travelling with my family and friends.

However, as time passed, I started to forget details or information about places I would travel to, like how we travelled to see that spot, what was that restaurant called where we had the best meals, where that hotel was located, etc.

In 2018, when I was in Bali, I thought I’d love to create something my family and friends could read before travelling to that country or XYZ. But I left that idea on the back burner for a long time—I wasn’t aware of the travel blogging opportunities then.

One day in the middle of 2020, I was in a rut and didn’t know what to do with my life (of course, this was a pivotal period for many people around the world) when I had a lightbulb moment: “OMG, I should create a blog!”

At first, I had no sense of direction when it came to topics, so my blog was about everything but the kitchen sink.

Ultimately, I decided to stick to something I love: sharing information about my travels and general travelling information. And ta-da! My travel blog was born!

I started with Written By Kel (my previous travel blog), but things shifted in the blogging world—don’t get me started, that’s another whole can of worms, so I had to shift what type of travel content and where I wanted to talk about travelling to, basically narrowing down.

In the end, I chose to write about my home province of British Columbia because there are places I’ve travelled to many times and many places I’ve yet to explore. As a bonus, I can share all the information, details, funny and serious moments, and experiences with you.

My Mission

  • Provide local guidance and knowledge about British Columbia.
  • Share experiences and personal experiences for others to enjoy.
  • Help you navigate other locations in BC, such as my home city Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Okanagan, etc.

My Experience With Travel

Although this blog mainly discusses travel within British Columbia, I’ve also travelled to other countries and have experience travelling. I also have the travel bug and want to explore more of the world, but for now, I’ll write about my home and eventually start another blog for when this city girl travels abroad full time.
